Two founding members of Denver Coworks, a local alliance of co-working spaces, offered their tips for selecting the right space for you.
1. Try it first. Every coworking space has its own vibe, so check out as many as possible before making a decision, said Jennie Nevin, founder of Green Spaces. Almost all offer free day passes for potential members — there's no guilt if you try them all.
2. Visit on multiple days. Some co-working spaces also offer longer, two-week trial periods — if that's the case, visit the space on multiple days, Nevin said. At every space, some days are busier than others, and it's not a bad idea to see things at various days and times.
3. Decide what you need. All co-working spaces offer the basics — wireless Internet, tables, chairs, printers, coffee, said Craig Baute, founder of Creative Density. But there are some differences in membership plans and additional amenities. Ask yourself: How often do you plan to co-work? Do you need a permanent desk or private office? If you'll use meeting rooms frequently, how many hours per month are included? Would you be better served by a niche space with specialized offerings?
